On this green planet which has the ability to support life, we have seen a variety of species evolved and still evolving. Out of these different living creatures, the human beings are found to have an exceptional and uncanny ability to think of its own, make decisions and choice of its own, something which we define and regard as the Will. Nature has given every animal, every living being some set of traits, which help them to live, to survive. They dont think, they dont make choices, they just know what is to be done. Their sole purpose is only to be part of the food cycle so as to maintain the ecological balance. Human beings on the other hand have been handed over the power to think, to decide and we, right from our ancestors have used that to reach where we are now. But where's the purpose???
We live to fulfill our desires, a desire to be happy, a desire to achieve our ambitions, goals, a desire physical or spiritual it may be...But the purpose part is still not clear.. Let me quote something from the movie 'The Matrix', where Agent Smith says this to Morpheus, "I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. " Is that what we are made for?? Consume and spread??
I only have questions to ask!!!
Coming back to the will.. Have we ever seen an ant celebrating a birthday party!!! Or all those insects, cockroaches whom we hate just because they steal and contaminate our food, or the dogs performing fornication (They dont have the rituals of marriage and dont derive any kind of pleasure doing it). They are not ashamed that they run around naked or steal our food, they are trained by nature to do so in order to survive. Similarly humans have a free will governed by a set of pre-defined laws, customs and conventions. We are trained to know and realise what is good and what is bad and we exercise our will based on these laws. These laws are different at different period of times and different geographical locations. We also tend to display restraint, astonishment and hatred towards those who go beyond these laws and we seldom realise that what might be pre-defined bad to us must be a pre-defined good to them. We live a life with a freedom bound by laws and anything out of ordinary, out of convention is regarded as absurd. But human mind is inherently absurd and is capable of recollecting absurd, out of ordinary events with relative ease than the ordinary ones.. If I mention a "mother****ing ***hole" here you tend to associate this more often than any other part when you recollect this blog. Mind is fascinated by absurdity. Its this absurdity and curiosity that has led to so many inventions and growth in our lives. A life full of conventions and customs and a mind fond of the opposite. Strange isnt it??? As I said I have only questions to ask!!!
